American Woman- Postcard Draft

Hello everyone! So one of the projects I am trying to finish up right now is the postcard. I chose this sort of patriotic drawing I did for it. My professor wants it to be fixed up a little bit and apparently I forgot that the back of my postcard has to have space to write on and a stamp...oops! I will upload the finished soon but for now I thought you would enjoy this version I did.

Shopping Bag

For our first project in Marcos Oksenhendler's class of the semester we were each asked to choose a store and redesign their shopping bag. I decided on Victoria's Secret since I love their bag. It's simple, shiny, iconic, and of course...PINK. I decided from the beginning that I wanted it to be done digitally in Adobe Illustrator so I could practice more on the computer and that I wanted the illustration to focus most on the women's bodies and lingerie as opposed to their faces. That's what we all stare at anyway when we're looking at lingerie models, right?
I'll admit, it was a bit frustrating coming to class every week and having to tweak it here and there till the design feels like it's no longer my own. This shopping bag project carries a LOT of weight since it could potentially be in the end of the year graduating show at the Museum at FIT. Everyone in my class felt this pressure especially today when the print lab was involved as well as cutting, pasting, and assembling the shopping bags perfectly. I ended up being quite pleased with the result, however. Sometimes when a project is overworked you need to just step back and go with your instincts.

Fashion Week- Oscar De La Renta

Thanks to my amazing professor, Karen Santry, my classmates and I were invited to three fashion shows last week to draw/photograph. I have never seen anything like these shows and really enjoyed drawing super fast as well as meeting people like photographers and magazine editors, etc. Here's some drawings I did after the Oscar De La Renta show as well as one I did DURING the show which...was difficult. These models walk so fast! I was very lucky to get as much as I could down on the page. However, I really enjoyed drawing on location last week and I'm hoping to do it more. The drawings from the other two shows, Emu Australia and Bebe should be up soon as well.

Illustrators Drawing illustrators

My friend Meagan Morrison cleverly decided to host an event called Illustrators Drawing Illustrators. She assigned all who were interested another illustrator to do a portait of. I got to do my friend, James Skarbek . I decided to do an oil painting on canvas since I haven't got to do any oil painting at FIT. At my old pre-college school, the Huntington School of Fine Arts, we did large oil paintings all the time in a very loose style. Hope you like it, Jimmy!

Luggage Tag

In my Adobe Illustrator class, I had to create a luggage tag for a company called EcoRoad. We could take inspiration from anywhere so I chose the country of South Africa. I thought it was appropriate for many reasons. My dad is from South Africa and has a lot of South African pride. He was probably one of the first to encourage me to pursue art. I also thought it was a pretty interesting time for the country since the FIFA world cup was there this year and they probably would want a luggage tag design to attract even more tourism.
This might be a work in progress still. I'm not quite happy with the font.
